How to Support your Skin this Winter

The Winter Solstice, on the 21st of December, marked the shortest day and longest night of the year. On this day, the sun appears to be standing still and, in the past, it marked the last celebration and time of feasting before the Winter set in. Then, this meant slaughtering animals to spare them the cold, stockpiling food and battening doors against the snow.

These may not be our challenges, but we can still prepare for the ill effects of the season. In the Winter, we move from centrally-heated buildings to the outdoors several times a day. Both environments can have a negative impact on our skin. The cold air can cause itchy, chapped skin and even acne. The indoor temperatures can cause dehydration. These constant temperature fluctuations mean that it is essential to put measures in place to protect our bodies.

The most important thing you can do to combat dehydration is drink more. You might be tempted to up your intake of caffeinated beverages during a chilly spell, but these are diuretics and will only worsen the situation. Treat yourself to a nice new water bottle in the January sales and keep it to hand during these colder months. A healthy person requires between 850 ml and 1,500 ml of water a day to maintain basic bodily functions. Are you drinking enough?

Another way to support your health during a cold spell is by increasing your intake of food rich in Omega 3. This includes oily fish, flaxseeds, chia seeds and nuts. These foods will replenish the natural oils in your skin.

The most important thing to consider is your skin-care routine. At STORIES by Eliza Grace we developed a Hand and Body Lotion that is high quality and full of nourishing properties. It is formulated with moisturising ingredients that deliver a nutrient rich, soothing and hydrating treatment for the body.

Shea Butter contains Vitamin A and is known as our skin’s best friend. It works alongside Cocoa Butter and Vitamin D-rich Sweet Almond Oil to rehydrate the skin. These ingredients have excellent emollient properties and are perfect for sensitive skin.

Marula Oil comes from the Namibian sweet marula fruit. It is quick to absorb and full of fatty acids and antioxidants. It leaves the skin feeling soft and has the added benefit of fighting the free radicals that threaten your complexion.

Argan Kernal Oil is derived from a thorny, evergreen tree native to Morocco. The oil contains Vitamin E and is high in antioxidants. Not only does it offer a moisturising boost for skin, it also strengthens nails.

Our Hand and Body Lotions were carefully curated to provide a deeply moisturising yet lightweight treatment for your entire body. It is the perfect way to give something back to your skin at a time when the elements are against us.
